A hard fought game even though the result shows that we won the game scoring twice as much as our opponents. In fact we lost the first session 8-10, then lost the second session 2-6 and at half time we were trailing 10-16. Men Seniors    96 - 38    Depiro MBA Shield 24
Friday, November 07, 2008 - 19:45
Depiro lead 4 - 2 in the second minute of the 1st session but an impressive break of 16 - 0 by our team immediately put the game beyond their control. We won the first session 23 - 10. Another 14 - 0 break by our players at the start of the second session killed the game as we were now leading 37 - 10. Our players were playing very good defense, breaking away for fast break immediately we won possession of the ball and when the fast break was not on, moving the ball very fast and finding an unmarked player for an uncontested shot. The game became balanced for a short period but another 11 - 2 break saw us leading 52 - 20 at half time. The first 5 minutes of the third session were balanced but in the last 5 minutes of the session we had another break, this time of 14 - 0 to finish the session leading 71 - 26. The last session was just a matter if we would reach another century or not. In fact in this session we scored the highest number of points in one session, 25 but failed to reach the century by 4 points. Our team was made up of the following players: Michael Naudi 23 points, Julian Naudi 8, David Camilleri 6, Chris Sammut 16, Omar Said 9, Clayton Calleja 2, Addison Bonnici 14, Kristin Baldacchino 3 and Silvio Cassar 15. Coach Joe Galea, Manager David Schembri.

The game was very balanced in this session up to the 7th minute when the score was 9 - 8 in our favour but we managed to score 4 more points against 1 to the end of the session to finish 13- 9. The second session was even more balanced and we managed to score 7 points each. So at half time we were still leading by 4 points with the score reading 20 - 16. At the start of the third session each team scored 4 points and in the 5th minute the score was 24 - 20. Here we got the decisive break when we had a run of 9 - 0 with our opponents failing to score a single point in these five minutes. We lost the 4th session 13 - 15 but all we had to do during this session was to control our opponents and at the end we won the game 46 - 35. Our team was made up of the following players: Lisa Pace 3 points, Loneke Calleja 3, Denelsa Bayliss 8, Marouska Azzopardi Duca 4, Giulia Muscat 1, Dana Mc Keon 9, Francesca Farrugia 16, Cristina Tedesco and Kristina Martinelli 2. Men Seniors    88 - 52    Luxol - MBA Shield 22
Sunday, November 02, 2008 - 16:15
A resounding win over Luxol when for most of the game we had scored double the points that Luxol had scored. We won all the sessions starting with a strong performance in the first session which we won 26-10, continued to increase our lead winning the second session 20-14. At half time we had a strong 22 point lead. We had another excellent session in the third session which we won 22-19 and then relaxed a bit to win the last session 20-19. Luxol had their foreigner injured but we also have Julien Valdiserra injured. The game was balanced until the fifth minute of the first session with Luxol leading 10-8. But we stopped Luxol from scoring a single point from then on to the end of the session and in these 5 minutes we had a brilliant 18-0 run. The second session was more or less balanced until the last minute when we scored 4 points to win it by 6 points. The start of the third session saw us increase our lead with a 10-2 run by the 6th minute while we scored 12 points against Luxol's 7 points by the end of the session. As already stated the last session was balanced with our team winning the session by one point. We scored 9 three pointers in this game. Once again all our players found their names on the scoring board. Our team was made up of the following players: Michael Naudi 15 points, Julian Naudi 5, David Camilleri 9, Etienne Bezzina 11, Chris Sammut 5, Omar Said a5, Clayton Calleja 2, Addison Bonnici 6, Kristin Baldacchino 6 and Silvio Cassar 14. Coach Joe Galea, Manager David Schembri.

Women Seniors    38 - 25    Empire Cinema Stunners

Notwithstanding the various injuries to some of our players, our girls managed to win this game with a good margin. We scored the first points to lead 3-0 but then had to concede a run of 0-8. Although we scored another basket we were still trailing at the end of the first session 5-8. Our players were more determined in the second session and our opponents were in the game only until the 4th minute of this session when they were leading for the last time 12-11. The we had a good 10-0 run and from then on the game was in our hands. We won the second session 18-6 with the score reading 23-14 in our favour. We increased slightly our lead in the third session to win it 10-6 with the score 33-20 in our favour at the end of the session. The last session ended up in a draw 5-5 with our girls winning the game 38-35. Our team was made up of the following players: Lisa Pace, Denelsa Bayliss, Loneke Calleja 11 points, Leanne Sciberras 8, Marouska Azzopardi Duca, Giulia Muscat, Dana McKeon 2, Francesca Farrugia 9, Cristina Tedesco and Kristina Martinelli 10. Notwitstanding that we were without one of our key players, Chanel Galea who is injured, our team, led by Leanne Sciberras won this game quite easily. We won the first session 12-9, drew the second session 8-8 but then won the third session 16-3 and the last session 12-8. Our team was made up of the following players: Lisa Pace 7 points, Raissa Sciberras, Loneke Calleja 8, Leanne Sciberras 19, Giulia Muscat 6, Dana McKeon, Francesca Farrugia 4, Cristina Tedesco 2 and Krisina Martinelli 2. Men Seniors    76 - 62    Siggiewi MBA Shield 11
Sunday, October 19, 2008 - 16:15
This was a tougher game than was expected but our players remained concentrated to overcome this difficult hurdle. Besides having Julien Valdiserra and Chris Sammut unavailable for this game, we also had to contend with an injury to Michael Naudi, who needed stitches to a wound in his face. The first session was balanced up to the 6th minute with the score 9-7 in our favour but then Siggiewi made a 6 point run. This was immediately answered by our players who replied with a similar 6 point run to go 2 points on top again. Siggiewi drew level but by the end of the session we had added 5 points against 2 points scored by Siggiewi and we ended the session 20-17. With the injury of Michael Naudi coming at the start of the second session, Siggiewi had a run of 9-0 to lead by 6 points by the 5th minute of the session. The rest of the session was a balanced game with our team scoring 14 points against 15 scored by Siggiewi. So at half time we were trailing 34-41. By the 4th minute of the third session Siggiewi had increased their lead to 9 points but then we had the return of Michael Naudi and immediately we made 12-0 run to turn the tables on Siggiewi and go into a 3 point lead by the 8th minute of the session. At the end of the session we were leading 56-51. Now the game was in our hands and we managed to score 20 points to the 11 points scored by Siggiewi to finish winning the game by 14 points. All the players on the team managed to get their name on the score board. Our team was made up of the following players: Michael Naudi 10 points, Julian Naudi 5, David Camilleri 9, Etienne Bezzina 5, Omar Said 8, Clayton Calleja 1, Addison Bonnici 20, Kristin Baldacchino 2 and Silvio Cassar 16. Coach Joe Galea, Manager David Schembri.

Scoring was low in the second session but we managed to increase our lead slightly when we won the second session 8-4. The third session provided better basketball from both teams and we won this session 13-10. We lost the final session 7-10 but emerged worthy winners by 10 points. Our team was made up of the following players: Giulia Muscat 5 points, Lisa Pace, Naomi Barry 6, Victoria Refalo, Kelly Schembri 4, Martina Azzopardi 8, Raissa Sciberras 2, Elena Farrugia 2, Cristina Tedesco 12 and Jade Bartolo 2. Coach Annie Jetcheva, Manager Lucienne Sciberras.

A very good start for our Boys Under 15 team. Right from the very start our boys started scoring points with some good teamwork while denying scoring chances to our opponents and notwithstanding the rotation of our players we won the first session 22-4, the second 11-4, the third 15-2 and the last one 19-4 to finish the game easy winners by 53 points. Our team was made up of the following players: Thomas Mifsud Bonnici, Melvin Galea 3, Jake Vella 20, Isaac Vassallo Medici 4, Duncan Tong, Jaromir Sant 10, Mark Zammit 4, Martin Krastev 8, Andre Azzopardi 18 and Heinrich Spiteri. Coach Dalibor Mijatovic, Manager Sandro Zammit.

Young Women    37 - 52    Luxol 7
Thursday, October 16, 2008 - 19:45
Our players started the game well moving the ball around in offense and defending well. In fact in the first session we were only trailing by 3 points with a low score of 6-9. Unfortunately one of our key players, Chanel Galea was injured in the second session and while our players were still confused our opponents opened a match winning margin when they won the second session 20-8. So by half time we were trailing 14-29. When we settled again we won the third session by one point 11-10 and then lost the final session by one point 12-13. We wish Chanel a speedy recovery. Our team was made up of the following players: Lisa Pace, Raissa Sciberras, Loneke Calleja 2 points, Leanne Sciberras 27, Giulia Muscat, Dana McKeon, Chanel Galea 4, Francesca Farrugia 4, Cristina Tedesco and Kristina Martinelli. Coach Annie Jetcheva, Manager Lucienne Sciberras.

Young Men    28 - 56    Starlites 6
Tuesday, October 14, 2008 - 18:15
The team lost by 28 points but even considering that our oponents were not as strong as Siggiewi, there was a slight improvement on our first game. The game was balanced for 3 sessions when we lost the first one 6-9, won the third 10-9 and lost the last session 12-18. However the second session proved to be our downfall when we committed a lot of turnovers to allow our opponents to win this session 20-0. Keeping in mind that we are participating in this category with 5 players who are only 15 years of age and another 5 who are still under 17, these results are to be expected especially in the beginning of the season. I am sure that the team will start performing better game by game. Our team was made up of the following players: Alister Duncan 4 points, Jonas Schembri, Zak Borg, Matthew Meilak 3, Michael Giusti 2, Daniel Xuereb 7, Clint Graham, Malcolm Tong 2, Christian Galea 8, Kris Camilleri 2, Pier Luca Bencini and Steve Portera. Coach Dalibor Mijatovic, Manager Bridget Giusti.

Junior Women    33 - 55    Depiro 5
Sunday, October 12, 2008 - 11:00
A good game which should have had a closer result had our three Under 17 players played a better game. For most of the game we were playing with our Under 15 players who acquitted themselves well considering the opposition playing some beautiful give and go moves. We also have to learn not to let our opponents take free uncontested shots from outside the area. We drew the first session 4-4 but then lost the second 17-11, the third 14-8 and the last 20-10. Our team was made up of the following players: Giulia Muscat 6 points, Lisa Pace, Naomi Barry 2, Victoria Refalo 1, Kelly Schembri, Chantelle Mifsud 8, Martina Azzopardi 12, Raissa Sciberras, Elena Farrugia, Cristina Tedesco 4 and Jade Bartolo. Coach Annie Jetcheva, Manager Lucienne Sciberras.

Junior Men    19 - 63    St. James Hospital 4
Saturday, October 11, 2008 - 14:30
Our Men Junior Team started the game well drawing the first session 8-8. But as soon as they went behind in the second session they gave up and lost the second session 4-19, the third 2-11 and the last 4-25. Once again poor defending especially when there is a turnover gifted our opponents with many chances of a fast break and easy points. Our team was made up of the following players: Clint Graham, Daniel Xuereb 10 points, Malcolm Tong 5, Zak Borg, Kris Camilleri, Steve Portera 2, Jacob Grech, Michael Giusti, Pier Luca Bencini, Moatasim Mustafa 2, Matthew Meilak and Nathalian Grech. Coach Dalibor Mijatovic, Manager Jennifer Xuereb

A good win for our Girls Under 15 team. The game was not as easy as the result indicates. In fact we only won the first session 4-2, the second 6-5 and the last session 5-4. But in the third session we were in a class of our own and we won this session 24-2 thus deciding the game in our favour. The girls were sporting their new kit for the first time and they looked smart in the new kit. Our team was made up of the following players: Martina Azzopardi 13 points, Sarah Xuereb, Jessica Farrugia 2, Lara Dimech 4, Kelly Schembri, Chantelle Mifsud 16, Chantelle Borg and Elena Farrugia 4. Coach Annie Jetcheva, Manager Jennifer Xuereb.

Young Women    53 - 33    Hibs
Thursday, October 09, 2008 - 18:15
Our Women Under 20 team started the season with a merited 53 - 33 win over Hibernians. At the start of the game Hibernians surprised our girls scoring some quick baskets and in fact won the first session 14-8. However we soon settled into our stride at the beginning of the second session with our full court press which unsettled Hibernians and made them lose several possessions. On the other hand our disciplined offense was producing points at a steady pace and we won the second session 16-4, thus finishing the second session leading 24-18. The team remained concentrated and we won the third session by an even bigger margin 18-4 to relax a bit in the last session which we drew 11 each. Our team was made up of the following players: Pace Lisa 2 points, Sciberras Raissa, Calleja Loneke 4, Sciberras Leanne 11, Muscat Giulia, McKeon Dana 2, Galea Chanel 28, Farrugia Francesca 1, Tedesco Cristina and Martinelli Kristina 5. Coach Jetcheva Annie, Manager Sciberras Lucienne.

Young Men    20 - 101    Siggiewi
Tuesday, October 07, 2008 - 18:15
Not the start to the season that one would like but losing the game against the strong Siggiewi team was to be expected, perhaps not by such a big margin. Our team with only 2 players over 16 years and 4 players who last year were still in the Under 15 team found the going too strong for them. Half the points scored against us were scored from fast break situations. The players have to understand that we must have balance on court. Once we take a shot, if you are not going for the rebound you must go back on defense and not wait to see what happens and then go back. However I am sure that under the guidance of our coach Dalibor Mijatovic we will have much better results than the one obtained today. The players need to attend for all training sessions. The session scores were as follows: 5 - 30, 7 - 26, 2 - 31 and 6 - 14. Our team was made up of the following players: Alistair Duncan 2 points, Jonas Schembri 4, Mohammed Almahmoudi, Matthew Meilak, Michael Giusti 7, Daniel Xuereb 2, Zak Borg, Malcolm Tong 2, Christian Galea 3, Kris Camilleri and Steve Portera. Coach Dalibor Mijatovic, Manager Bridget Giusti.
